How To Identify Your Skin Type

Bella Vita Organic Guide - How To Identify Your Skin Type

Understanding your skin type is an essential first step in discovering the suitable and most effective skincare product. Your skin type keeps on changing with the change in season and increasing age. As you grow, your skin becomes drier due to decreased natural oil, sun damage, and reduced cell renewal. Similarly, your skin tends to be oilier in the summer season and drier in winters.

Due to these changes, it becomes imperative to choose the right product as per your skin type to get the most out of your skincare routine and cater to its need.  If you're unsure how to determine your skin type, our Bella Vita Organic Guide will help you identify your it using the famous dabbing technique.

So, are you ready to get tested? We sure you are!

How to identify your skin type

OILY SKIN

Oily skin is a result of the overproduction of natural oil from your skin's sebaceous glands. This often happens due to fluctuations in humidity, your hormones, increased stress level, etc. Your skin feels greasy (particularly across your T-zones and chin).

How to check?

If you think that your skin type is oily, you can check it with the help of the dabbing method. Once you wake up in the morning, wash your face with a gentle cleanser and wait for around an hour without applying anything to it. Then, take a thin tissue paper and dab it all over your face. You mostly have oily skin if your tissue turns blotchy and translucent at most places. Be sure to check the entire face.

Bella Vita Organic Skincare Tip

We recommend using a gentle cleanser like Bella Vita Organic Vitamin C Face Wash twice a day to maintain your skin's pH balance and control the over-production of oil/sebum. You can add Bella Vita Organic Scrub Grit in it to exfoliate twice a week. This helps in removing dead skin cells from the skin's surface. Make sure to use water or gel-based moisturiser and sunscreen. Also, avoid consuming excess spice and sugar in your diet

DRY SKIN

Dry skin produces less sebum than normal or oily skin. It feels rough and dull, even after cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser.  Your skin tends to look dull, flaky, and scaly most of the time. This type of skin is prone to increased irritation and sensitivity. There is a tight feeling on your cheeks and mostly around your lips. There are noticeable fine lines and wrinkles on your face too.

How to check?

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and leave it bare for an hour. Dab a thin tissue on your face. If the tissue doesn't get blotched or translucent, this indicates that you have dry skin. You will feel dry and tight all over your face during this process.

Bella Vita Organic Skincare Tip

We recommend you drink at least 2-3 litres of water every day to keep your skin hydrated. Consume fruits, seeds, and nuts, along with healthy vegetables. Avoid hot and long showers, as it strips away the natural oil from your skin. Also, use glycerin-based soap and moisturizers with natural ayurvedic ingredients, like almond oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil. COMBINATION SKIN

Combination skin is the most common skin type with two or more skin textures. The sebaceous gland of the nose, chin, and forehead (T-Zone) tends to be overactive, while the pores on the cheeks and jawline are less active. That is why your skin looks oily across your T-Zones, and dry, flaky and tight around your cheeks and remaining areas.

How to check?

Use two different thin tissue paper and dab one on your T zone (nose, chin, and forehead) and another for your cheek. With the dabbing techniques' help, the tissue paper of your T-zone will turn translucent (or at some places), and another one will stay dry and normal. This indicates that you have combination skin.

Bella Vita Organic Skincare Tip

Combination skin is a bit tricky to handle as you need to take care of your skin types differently. The simplest way is to use products that are suitable for all skin types. You can also use aloe vera gel-based products on your T-Zone and natural oil-based products on the rest of your face.

Normal Skin is a well-balanced skin type. The T-zone (forehead, chin, and nose) may be a bit greasy, but overall, sebum and moisture are balanced, and the skin is neither too oily nor too dry.

How to check?

In the Thin tissue dabbing technique, your tissue will have a very less amount of translucent dots on it. This will indicate that you have neither full oily nor completely dry skin.

Bella Vita Organic Skincare Tip

Normal Skin type's skin concerns are minimal, which gives it the freedom to use a maximum of skincare products. To help maintain the balance, follow morning and night natural skincare routine and avoid using chemical-filled products. Prefer using ayurvedic skincare products like skin cleanser, moisturizer, or sunscreen that helps replenish the skin.
